Glaucoma treatment
Early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of glaucoma: medication, laser procedures, and surgery with drainage implants and valves.
About the service
Glaucoma is a chronic disease in which elevated intraocular pressure gradually damages the optic nerve. In its early stages it usually has no symptoms, and vision that has been lost cannot be restored. That is why it is so important to detect the disease in time.
For diagnostics, SAIF OPTIMA uses OCT angiography, perimetry, tonometry, gonioscopy, and anterior segment analysis on the CASIA 2. Treatment is tailored individually: pressure-lowering eye drops, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and laser iridotomy, and, if necessary, surgery with drainage implants, valves, or shunts.

Process
Glaucoma cannot be cured once and for all, but it can be controlled. That is why treatment is built as long-term monitoring:
- Diagnostics: measurement of intraocular pressure and examination of the visual field and optic nerve.
- Choosing treatment: eye drops, a laser procedure, or surgery, depending on the stage and type of the disease.
- Regular monitoring: scheduled check-ups and therapy adjustments help preserve vision for many years.

FAQ
In its early stages, glaucoma shows almost no signs. That is why we recommend regular checks of intraocular pressure and the optic nerve after the age of 40, or earlier if you have a family history of the disease.
Lost vision cannot be restored, but timely treatment stops or significantly slows the progression of the disease. The key is to follow your doctor's prescriptions and not miss scheduled check-ups.
Laser treatment and surgery are recommended if eye drops do not lower the pressure to the target level or if the type of glaucoma requires a different approach. The doctor makes the decision based on the examination results.
The doctor determines the frequency of check-ups individually — it depends on the stage of the disease and how stable the pressure is. At follow-up visits, the pressure is measured and the visual field and optic nerve are checked.
Yes. For international and out-of-town patients, a medical tourism program is available, including transfer, accommodation at the IRIS hotel, and full support at all stages of treatment.
