The founder's story
Founder of SAIF Medical Group and the SAIF OPTIMA eye clinic, ophthalmic surgeon
In 2004, Ikbol Saliev founded the SAIF OPTIMA eye clinic in Tashkent and was the first in Uzbekistan to introduce phacoemulsification, the world-recognised method of cataract surgery.
Under his leadership, the clinic was the first in the country to use corneal cross-linking for keratoconus, phakic lenses for high myopia and FemtoLasik laser vision correction, and later introduced the CLEAR technique and femtosecond laser cataract surgery.
Ikbol Saliev was a member of the European and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and of the Society of Ophthalmologists of Turkic-speaking countries. Over the years of his work, a small eye clinic grew into the SAIF Medical Group medical holding.
Today, the SAIF Medical Group team carries on his work and cherishes the traditions he established.

SAIF-OPTIMA was the first in Uzbekistan to perform cataract phacoemulsification — cataract removal through a microincision without stitches. Before the clinic opened, no operations using this method had been performed in the country.
